Vapour Cloud Explosions (VCE)

Forensic Engineering Track

Fuel-air explosions in a vapour cloud have resulted in a number of dangerous, costly fires, including the 2005 explosion in Buncefield, the fifth-largest oil storage depot in the UK. Factors causing the formation of vapour clouds in addition to the presence of ignition sources are factors that should be investigated following a VCE.

This webinar reviews Vapour Cloud Explosions from around the world and examines the circumstances that lead to the formation of the vapour cloud. The presenter will also discuss the potential ignition sources that lead to the explosion of vapour clouds. As part of the discussion, the webinar will look at failure of protective measures, including human factors, that may have allowed the formation of the vapour cloud and the subsequent explosion.
