OEMs tend to void warranties and end service contracts after a loss, even if it does not involve actual physical damage to equipment exposed to the loss circumstances.

Questions arise about what insurers should worry about when OEMs cancel a warranty or service contract, and what loss adjusters should do when trying to ascertain the condition of the equipment and assess the actual physical damage to the equipment. Certain expectations of the insured will need to be met, and each circumstance requires a unique approach depending on the type of industry and equipment involved, such as power generation, communication infrastructure, water and waste water treatment, health care, IT and data centres, in addition to several others.
