Investigating Cable Failures in Offshore Wind Farms

Offshore wind farms provide around 5% of energy around the world, and 20% of energy in the UK. In recent years, fleets of offshore wind energy farms have been deployed around the world, including in the United Kingdom, China, the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.

Offshore wind farms involve a network of turbines with cables that connect to shore and into the power grid. Many of these cables have been laid in ways that are causing damage to the cables, despite it being the industry standard at the time the wind farms were built several years ago.

The harsh operational conditions, limited accessibility and lack of expertise make investigation of cable failures in offshore wind farms a serious challenge.

This webinar looks at technical aspect of the failures and related disputes that can occur in offshore wind farms, as well as how to investigate these failures.
