Climate crisis and its impact on ageing infrastructure

Ageing infrastructure including power generation plants, electric grids, water treatment and networks, wastewater treatment, and communication networks were built with an expected lifespan based upon assumptions about the climate that have changed and continue to change.

As a result, the expected exposures have changed, resulting in shorter life expectancy and more frequent failures that can directly or indirectly be traced back to climate change. Higher ambient temperatures, extreme weather, stronger wind storms, and heavier rain fall over shorter periods leading to drastic flooding are samples of conditions impacting the life expectancy of infrastructure.

This webinar looks at the process of assessing damage to infrastructure, including flood damage, fire, contamination and other losses, as well as looking at different reinstatement options.
