Paper Mills and Manufacturing

Risk Engineering Track

Date: 26 August 2020
Times: 10 AM London Time with a recorded replay at 3 PM London Time

Last year, a severe fire broke out in a paper factory in the UK that burned after four stacks of paper caught fire in the handling yard. Ten fire crews fought the fire for over 24 hours before the fire could be dealt with. This wasis just one example of the type of loss that can be suffered by paper mills due to the flammable raw material that is handled by such industries.

In addition to the hazards faced by manufacturing plants in general, paper mills contain a number of hazards that must be considered, ranging from the complex machinery to the extensive flamable material used as raw material, including recycled paper, cardboard, and other flammable materials.Fires affect paper mills not only due to the high fuel content, but because as well special equipment is used to manufacture paper to begin with.

This webinar will look at assessing the various hazarads present at paper manufacturing plants. The webinar will also look at recycling plants that have to store significant amounts of collected waste paper in very limited space creating significant fuel that can burn uncotrollabley for a long time. The presenter will review the risk assessment techniques that must be used when surveying these plants.
