Investigating Turbine Failure

Forensic Engineering Track

Date: 8 July 2020
Times: 10 AM London Time with a recorded replay at 3 PM London Time

Turbine (gas and steam turbines) insurance claims costs the global insurance market significant amounts every year. A significant number of turbine losses involve blade failures. Ambitious design is only one of several causes that lead to blade failures. Of critical concern to insurers and reinsurers is establishing the root cause of the loss so that policy liabilities can be accurately applied. Determining the root cause of turbine failures requires a detailed investigation that involves several specialised forensic engineering steps.

This webinar presents an expert’s perspective of root cause analysis (RCA) required following a turbine failure losses. The presenter will use several case studies to highlight the various steps required to complete the RCA process and determine the cause accurately. The presentation will also discuss different reinstatement options and how to manage relationships with manufacturers and other OEM suppliers in ways that mitigate the loss and expedite reinstatement of the equipment.
