Impact of COVID-19 on Operations of Industrial Plants

Maintenance & Condition Monitoring During Periods of Isolation

You can't escape the news. All around the world people and companies are being affected by Corvid-19, or the Coronavirus.

How worried should we be about how this pandemic will affect operations across various industries? After all, we all know that Coronavirus won't infect our laptops, data centres and other critical equipment.

Unfortunately, we have now to consider and prepare for a number of issues that we have never had to seriously consider before. Some of these considerations that are rarely looked at include:

What to do if a scheduled maintenance is postponed as a result of travel restrictions and closures?

What if replacement parts needed to reinstate a piece of equipment following a loss can only be sourced from at-risk countries such as southeast Asia where factories stopped for several month?

If employees are sent on self-imposed isolation because of suspicion of exposure, then who will it fall to manage operation?

What about daily, weekly and monthly condition monitoring that cannot be completed if a large number of employees are not at the plant to carry out required checks?

Many aspects of preventative maintenance and testing must be done within a certain schedule and by certain individuals with certain level of expertise and training. Now that we face the very real possibility that the workforce will be unable to follow that schedule, new considerations must be made for this likelihood, many of which involve OEMs, manufacturers, and third-party service providers.

Should we worry? Is this a real threat? How should we address it?

The impact of such an international pandemic of this magnitude has never been fully examined before.

Join us and think with us about these rising concerns.
