CEERISK organises workshop on renewable energy in MENA region

In collaboration with Clyde & Co, CEERISK will organise a workshop in London on Renewable Energy in the MENA region, to be held on 27 November, 2018. The MENA region has invested extensively in various renewable energy during the last several years, including a series of solar projects predicted to double in 2018.

In recent years, there has been significant move away from fossil fuel towards renewable energy sources. Construction of new renewable energy plants are being announced across the world, and include many in the MENA region. Countries known for dependence on fossil fuels are now leading the way to increase energy generation from renewable sources.

However, as countries in the MENA region move towards renewable energy, (re)insurers are facing new challenges resulting from the deployment of these innovative technologies into this specific region. The sheer scale of these projects has become an obstacle on its own. Deployment of new technologies in remote locations in the MENA region face unique threats and challenges from both the harsh environment and unstable political climate. All of these factors have drastically increased the complexity of claims arising from renewable energy plants in the regions, both for plants that are already in operation as well as those still under construction.

Clyde & Co and CEERISK Consulting have organised this workshop to bring together a number of industry experts, working in both claims and placement related roles, to explore and discuss challenges faced by the London market and its clients when managing claims that arise from renewable energy risks in the MENA region.

Using a case study, the panel of experts will be discussing issues, including:

  • Managing the claims adjustment process in remote locations
  • Investigating the root cause of claims
  • Establishing policy liability
  • Claims resolution
  • Subrogation
  • The legal environment in the MENA region and its impact to the claims process

During panel discussions, the panel will be presenting perspective of different stakeholders in the process and will be seeking input from delegates representing clients, brokers, (re)insurers and loss adjusters.
