We surveyed a global construction project providing access to the Karaköy coastline for the first time in 200 years, while serving as a hub for the city from tourism to arts and culture. The project, which occupies approximately 60,000m2 was set to rebuild the existing port facility into a modern-day cruise ship terminal. When finished, the terminal will consist of several buildings, dedicated to cruise passengers, retail, offices and a hotel. The works on the terminal are a combination of refurbishment as well as rebuilding, in addition to the construction of new properties.
As part of our survey, we studied the risk exposures that the construction site was exposed to, including weather and natural catastrophe, fire, theft and other security hazards. More importantly, we carefully and accurately analysed the impact that COVID-19 pandemic had on the project progress and the effect government measures had on project timing.
