Fire Investigation Workshops: Working with Local Authorities in UAE

Based on its commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering dialogue in the local insurance market, CEERISK Consulting organised three successful workshops in Abu Dhabi and Dubai earlier this month. CEERISK experts and a number of select industry leaders engaged in frank and open discussions on how to manage the investigation of fires and collaborate with local authorities in the UAE.

Delegates from leading insurers including ADNIC, Dhafra, Dubai National, and Sagr joined loss adjusters and solicitors in the UAE insurance market to discuss challenges faced by insurers and loss adjusters when attempting to determine the origin and cause of fires in the country.

Mamoon Alyah, Managing Director and principal engineer of CEERISK was joined by Yazeed Jarrar, Technical Manager of CEERISK’s Abu Dhabi office to present case studies during which they highlighted challenges faced when reaching reliable conclusions regarding cause and responsibility of fire, and discussed the best practices to overcome these challenges.

Delegates attending the workshops agreed that early collaboration with local authorities can minimise the risk of divergent conclusions in situations where local authorities issue reports that contradict findings of experts instructed by insurers and loss adjusters. It was also agreed that the abilities of the experts to communicate effectively and clearly in Arabic during investigations can aid in the development of mutual understanding with local authorities in ways that best facilitate collaboration.

A Participation Certificate confirming delegates attendance at the workshop was mailed to the participants. The certificate can be used to claim 2 continuing educational credits with the CII and other organisations.

Continuing with its plans to organise workshops on different topics of interest to the local market, CEERISK has started planning its upcoming workshops that will be hosted in Abu Dhabi on 26 June in Dubai on 27 June 2018. The topic of the upcoming workshops will be “Cladding Fires in High Rise Buildings” that will look at the challenges of insuring high-rise buildings fitted with different types of cladding.
